I still remember the excitement I felt watching the fireworks and hearing the shouts of joy from the crowd as 2010 became 2011. There’s something about beginning a New Year that creates hope and makes us feel that we have a brand new slate to start over. New beginnings become more meaningful when we take the time to reflect on the previous year, what went well, what went wrong, what we planned to achieve but didn’t etc. Having this self evaluation also helps us focus on what we need to change and gives us a clear perspective on the Year ahead.
As you work on your goals, here are some tips to help you along the way:
• Eliminate your Limiting Beliefs: You need to first eliminate any negative / limiting beliefs about who you are and what you are capable of. Many of us set goals with a negative preconceived notion about what we are capable of. Realizing that we have unlimited potential and that we ARE capable of achieving anything we want regardless of circumstances will set you free to dream and work towards turning these dreams into reality.
• Address all areas of your life: Sometimes we tend to set goals that focus on one area of our life and not on all areas that are important for our overall success. You should set at least three goals in each of the following major areas of your life; Finance and Wealth, Career or Business, Health and Fitness, Relationships, Personal Development, Community and Charity, Spirituality.
• Break it down: For some people setting goals is easy however getting the work done towards achieving those goals becomes a problem. We get caught up in our “usual” daily schedule and don’t think about our goals, next thing we know the year is almost at an end and we’re wondering what happened to all those wonderful resolutions. An effective way to address this is to have an action plan. An effective action plan takes each goal and breaks it down into daily and weekly tasks that we can execute. Breaking our goals down into tasks also helps us in addressing the goals that seem overwhelming at the beginning.
No matter what happened in 2010, resolve to take advantage of your new beginning in 2011 and get back on track towards your dreams and goals. Good luck!
