We've all heard the saying a million times before, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer…and many business and life theories rally to define why this is but based on what I've seen it really can be as simple as the power of your attitude and your mind, or what I now call "The Stain of Success". The simple definition of a stain is "a discoloration produced by foreign matter having penetrated into or chemically reacted with a material; a spot not easily removed." So when I talk about the stain of success I'm talking about the fact that our achievements and our successes no matter how small remain with us, as long as we hold onto them then we can overcome any obstacles and see ourselves succeed again.
Every successful person I know has failed and failed again. There are sacrifices that must be made, that shape us towards our quest to achieve our dreams. But there are also crowning moments, glory moments that we encounter and the power of a positive outcome is so much stronger than the power of a negative outcome. Here's an example...think about the CEO or business person who’s at the top of their game when one day circumstances change and they lose everything…it is one thing to have success but to have it then lose it is a painful thing. However, if you know people like this, then you also know that they are more likely to be successful again than the person who has never known success. Why? That feeling and belief that they’ve achieved their aspirations never goes away and as long as they hold onto it then they will do what they have to do to reclaim it…they’ve been stained with success.
The Stain of Success is not only relevant with business achievements but also with personal achievements…this is why I encourage you at your most difficult time to do something for someone else or volunteer to help others even for a few hours...it may not change your situation but you will be stained with success, the success of being able to help someone else regardless of your situation, the success that will make you feel worthy of something or someone in this world and it is this feeling that will keep you strong and moving on...
Finally I challenge the business owners like me to carry their stains of success with them. Through every lost pitch and sale all you need is to remember that at some point someone said yes, and this means your product or service is worthy and has a market, you just have to keep challenging yourself to define it and look for it and innovate to address any challenges that stand between you and your overwhelming profits...
We're all stained with success, carry your stain with you and you will overcome anything.
